“Improving the lives of children with multi-system genetic disorders”

OVERVIEW

The Keara Project is a multi-faceted approach to helping children and families affected by multi-system genetic disorders.  A multi-system genetic disorder is a disease or disorder affecting more than one system of the body.  This project is designed to bring children a positive outlook of the future through advocacy, support, awareness, and consulting.

STRATEGY

·         Connecting you to the services available to you and your family

o   We will join with you to advocate within the system to ensure that our children get the medical, professional and educational services they need and in doing so get the best possible start in life.

·         Providing counselling and therapeutic support

o   Our qualified and experienced staff members are drawn from the mainstream fields of physiotherapy (physical), psychology (cognitive) and education (developmental). All therapists receive additional training in cognitive and communication techniques.

·         Increasing awareness and understanding

o   We promote education in the public domain to increase awareness and understanding of the unique challenges and needs faced by our children.

§  “I’m not different, you are” campaigns

·         Strengthening charitable organizations with similar aims

o   We have a “centre of excellence campus” that hosts organizations which are more specific to the variety of genetic disorders.  The “campus” promotes a joint approach to annual fundraising which funds the office/administration costs of organizations located on the “campus”.

o   Our qualified management consultants provide a professional and positive approach, combined with innovative thinking and practical solutions, to develop and support the strategic aims of our partner organizations.

TACTICS
